The 4th Tank Corps continued its support of the 40th Army, covering the northern flank of the front during the Voronezh Front's "Ostrogorzhsk-Rossoh" operation. The second phase of the offensive began on the 24th of January and Kastornoye fell the next day, trapping two out of the three corps of 2nd Army. It was at this point that the 4th Tank Corps was ordered to attack Gorshechnoe, the same location that it had failed at the previous summer.
Objectives: The antitank screen in the village station to the west and south must be destroyed. Your platoon will form the right flank of the attack. While the other platoons of your company rain fire on the heads of the enemy, your platoon will race west then south to take the objective on the flank.
